Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas Awards $38 Million in New Recruitment Grants

AUSTIN - The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) today awarded 12 new academic research grants totaling $38 million to recruit cancer researchers to Texas.

"With the addition of today’s newest class of 12 CPRIT Scholars, CPRIT continues to connect world-class researchers to universities and institutions across Texas and form a critical ecosystem of distinguished cancer-fighting talent," said Wayne Roberts, CPRIT Chief Executive Officer. "The selection process for these awards is robust and ensures that Texas institutions are at the cutting edge of cancer research."

Dr. Michelle Le Beau Joins CPRIT Leadership as New Chief Scientific Officer

AUSTIN – The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) has appointed Michelle M. Le Beau, Ph.D., as chief scientific officer. Dr. Le Beau will lead the agency’s academic research program in supporting innovative cancer research and recruiting world-class cancer researchers to Texas institutions.

"With Dr. Le Beau’s addition, we will continue pressing the boundaries of the cancer research frontier," said Wayne Roberts, CPRIT’s chief executive officer. "She will integrate all three CPRIT programs—academic research, prevention, and product development research—to spark translation of scientific discovery into therapies to prevent, mitigate, and cure cancer."

Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas Awards $142 Million in New Grants

(AUSTIN) — The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) announced 73 new cancer research and prevention grants totaling over $142 million. The projects approved today include 62 academic research grant awards, nine prevention awards, and two product development research awards awarded to 24 institutions and companies across the state. These awards will expand access to clinical trials, incubate innovative cancer research, support the state’s emerging biotechnology industry, provide needed cancer screenings for underserved Texans and recruit outstanding cancer researchers to Texas.

(AUSTIN) — The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) today awarded eight grants totaling more than $13 million dedicated to expanding access to cancer clinical trials in Texas, including one new award that will strengthen clinical trial network infrastructure, two first-of-their-kind CPRIT awards to encourage increased participation in clinical trials and five awards that support the next generation of promising clinical investigators.

Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas Awards $2.5 Million to UT Rio Grande Valley

(AUSTIN) — The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) today announced a $2.5 million grant to The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) for an Integrated Cancer Research Core facility. The award accelerates the UTRGV School of Medicine’s mission to address health disparities in the area, including a disproportionate incidence of liver, gallbladder, stomach, and cervical cancers and bridges existing gaps in the field of early cancer diagnostics and cancer therapeutics.
