Lay Summary

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is one of the deadliest types of cancers. Upon detection of these tumors, there is an extremely poor prognosis for the patient and few therapeutic options are available. This proposal aims to investigate an early metabolic reprogramming event mediated by a non-essential enzyme that appears to be critical for the development of these cancers. Inhibition of this enzyme will be tested as a novel strategy for blocking the initiation or progression of these tumors using a mouse model that recapitulates many features of human pancreatic cancer.
