The Dental Oncology Education Program (DOEP) aims to provide Texas dental professionals and other healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to reduce oral cancer morbidity and mortality through collaboration among public, private, and volunteer sectors of the state. Programs will be delivered at large state level meetings, local community venues, and in printed format. All printed materials will also be available online, along with CE modules, on the DOEP website.

In addition to educating dental professionals in practice, DOEP works collaboratively with all the Texas dental schools as well as schools of dental hygiene. The project specifically addresses prevention through increasing public awareness of early detection and oral cancer risk factors to complement the goal of professional education. A steering committee composed of key experts in cancer control and the dental profession statewide will continue to guide the program. DOEP staff and steering committee annually update a strategic plan.
