Cancer Costs Texas More Than $28 Billion According to The Perryman Group

Dr. Ray Perryman, President of The Perryman Group, presented an update on the direct medical cost of cancer in Texas now estimated to be approximately $28.1 billion, up from $25.3 billion last year and an increase of 28.6% since 2007 at CPRIT’s Oversight Committee meeting today. This new data together with other findings on the economic impact of CPRIT is compiled in The Perryman Group’s latest report, "An Economic Assessment of the Cost of Cancer in Texas and the Benefits of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and its Programs," commissioned by CPRIT. The other findings include the annual economic impact all cancer prevention, commercialization and research programs associated with CPRIT on Texas business activity was $1.1 billion in output (real gross product), or every dollar of CPRIT investment generated $4.78 in output.
